Me Parolled? I'm to OLD for parole! I re registered but haven't had a chance to post anything yet. Mikeprice.... Millis runs mostly Kenworths, they do have a few freightliners but unless one of those guys move up, you'll probably get a KW. My hubby started out in a 2000 KW last year, and now has a 2004 KW. Millis takes care of their equipment and the trucks I've seen are nice. Mr Truck, Country1....Good luck in Cartersville!!! If you see truck 482 show up...that's my hubby Steve (Nightshift) give him a shout, he's a nice guy! ;D

Here's a tip for you guys before you head to training, DO NOT buy your Atlas at a truck stop Check half.com do a search for road carriers' atlas, I found a seller that has them @ $5 MUCH better than the $80 MSRP or the normal $40 or so @ a T/S. Oh yeah, just for the record, Millis 4/29 start date I will be SOooooo glad to get out of the house ;D

A special thanks to Squirrelbait the tip on the atlas, it saved me $30.00, If I every meet you on the road The coffee is on me!!!! Got any other Tips!!!! Country1 Yep, I hope admin doesn't mind a few links ........ Cheap luggage, as in a briefcase for all your books can be found @ ...... www.truckersstuff.com/store/list_products/?category_id=733367 I ordered the one on the top left, great for shower time, and only $5.50 ;D You can also find a leather briefcase on there, under briefcase, leather briefcase, Model BCLBC, I use this one and it will hold the laminated atlas and plenty of other paperwork. Nothing fancy, cheap leather, but works good enough for me. This site also has CBs if you need one. half.ebay.com/search/search.jsp?nthTime=1&product=books&keyword=the+next+exit&x=13&y=14 <------ Half.com link, pick up a copy of The Next Exit, it will tell you what is at the exit. No way it can stay 100% accurate but it's close and a good thing to have handy if you are looking for a place to snooze. Country1, I had to reschedule training, you may have got my spot ;D I'll still be there 5/10. Look for an old fat bast*rd in a Green Olds Cutlass w/ Ill plates

Okay time for a quick run down of week 1 with Millis' Training Program
Day 1 : Normal BS intro Motor Vehicle Laws Hours of Service
Day 2: Driver's Daily Log Program Trip Planning Control Systems Shifting Range Map & Rules
Day 3: Control Systems Demo Range Instruction (shifting)- all day on the range aka The Millis 500
Day 4: Visual Search aka PTI Drop & Hook Backing
Day 5: All day on the range going over Pre trip, straight backing Drop & Hook, and running around with a trailer (the 1st time for the new guys)
I don't claim to be a writer, just a guy going back through training to get my CDL, so bear with me.
There is only 1 instructor for 6 students (well, now 5) so plenty of 1 on 1 time if needed and the instructor (Bill Thomas) is a 27 yr OTR vet. Of course you'd have be used to drivers to know that means he's a warped demented old fart with a wicked sense of humor, but he knows his trucks.
If first impressions count for anything, so far this is the best run company I've seen, I worked for 5 others before, this doesn't even compare. The other drivers all seem happy, the shop foreman is a great guy who cares about the trucks and the drivers. Even the d**n mechanics are easy going, they DO accept bribes too
We started with 6 but lost 1 by his OWN doing, he packed up and left on his own. Family problems, in his case he may return within 6 months and not lose his tuition or employment possibilities.
So far the training had actually been fun for the most part, we have a cast of characters in this class that has us rolling ...........
Had to throw in a line about the training trucks, MODIFIED '96 & '97 Freight shakers, they have 3 doors on them, some d**n good work doing that The bunks were removed and actual seats installed in the rear. MUCH better set up than an old school bus seat in a cabover
I'll check back in next weekend with a fresh run down. We have weekends off and I think everyone had a place to go this weekend.
Oh yeah, next Friday is the 1st actual road trip around town. I think I'll double up on my BP meds.

Millis has about 750 Trucks, and yes they do operate in north east, the have terminal in Weedsport NY, but you will drive anywhere east of Mississippi River. They also have Sterling, and colombia Freight shakers, they give you what they have, You can get a new truck if you make safty bonus for a year.I just came from School (MTI) after trainer I should get a 2000 T-2000 Automatic to get rid of. They just Bought 140 new T-2000 and 50 new Freightliners.and 500 new trailors. They have almost 4 to 1 Trailors as trucks a lot of drop and Hook.all 53 foot. Trainers have 2004 T-2000 10 speed, they also have 13 speed.Millis has a great matanice program,If you write it up It gets Fixed, and 20000 mile service, We dont drive Junk! you are expected to Keep your truck Clean and neat, truck washs every two weeks.
