Swift Transportation has ordered 4,000 Volvo VNL 670 Tractors. They were upset at Freightliner. So new Sweedish Petes ;D ARE ON ORDER.I heard there powered by Cummins Engines. The sleepers are smaller than the Century's. Comments? Skull

I heard that Central Reefer (Jerry Moyer owned) was hacked off at Freightliner because the could not deliver the needed units, so they too are going Volvo. I teamed in a 770 mid roof and had no problems with space. I will trade the Freightliners rattles and electrical headaches for a Volvo any day. I was never much of a Freightshaker fan anyway.

I live in Freightliner's home town, so that's a bummer for their employees. I grew up here and Freightliner has always been part of the landscape.
I drive a Frightlaner, and I don't care for their trucks all that much either. And I don't have a lot of sympathy for the company as a whole. They've flooded the market with cheap, crappy trucks and they lay people off at the drop of a hat.

I've been told by many drivers that the Freightliner Columbia is JUNK. Due to rattling and lousy wipers in snow.I've never had one.Schneider only uses Century Class C-120's. Skull.

Frightliner town. Frighliner isn't any different than PACCAR or Mack or any of the others. They get a big order and they hire a bunch of people. When the order is filled they lay off. It's part of the manufacturing cycle. Then they can't understand why people don't show any loyality to the company. It's just another sign of the times.

"It's just another sign of the times"
I am afraid the days of Camelot or over. I heard they shut the last two American Levi's plants down.
Where will the world sell its goods when Americans are all broke, discouraged and jobless?
I guess one day, we shall see.

Truck Pileup Just read an article on a five truck pileup Sunday morning in western Montana.Slow those trucks down when it's icy out there. Some Schinder truck lost it on a curve.to much speed.Four trucks added to the pileup.how may preventable citations will come out of that mess.

I saw one of those Swift Volvos at the Sappi paper place in Skohegan Maine last week. I helped the driver slide his frozen up tandems.
That truck was sweet and the dude was treating it like it was solid gold. He didn't even take the plastic off the seats. He removed his shoes while still standing on the top step and put slippers on. hehehehehe.
A Westside driver and I stood there frowning as he told us of the marvels of his brand new rig. We both wanted to smite our centuries after having seen it up close.

Truck Pileup Slow those trucks down when it's icy out there. This one deserves to be it's own post rather than a reply, but... I had an experience with just this sort of thing. I hate to call it justice served or anything because the guy could have been hurt, but it goes to show you that thingyiness can cost you. One week after the big 23 truck pileup on 80 in PA I am coming across there Westbound in heavy snow. Bad visibility and a good 2 inches on the road. Pennsylvania has a new Governor that thinks that road repair and winter maintenence recieved too much money under the Tom Ridge Administration so there are fewer salt shakers out there now. Anyways, the roads were snow covered but not terrible so I backed it down to 55 and kept rolling towards my fuel stop. This group of a-holes blows past me and starts talking sh*t on the radio about me driving slow. I ignore it and keep on rolling down to about the 70MM when traffic is stopped. An hour and a half later we start rolling again and as we pass the crash I see that it is one of those hammerheads in the ditch all tore up. Jerks said something about me holding up the works by driving 55. How much did he hold it up by putting his rig in the ditch?

Another one of those "Hard to Learn Lessons" my Grandfather always talks about. Slow and steady is the best way to go in bad weather. Glad to see you're not letting others dictate your speed Arcflash. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, I am not going to let someone else drive my truck while my azz is in the seat.
The way things work it really doesn't pay anyhow. Two people making the exact same run, one at 55 and the other at 65. The faster one gets there 10 minutes earlier but I'll bet top dollar their log books look pretty much alike.
