Hi all,
I just found out yesterday that my uncle, who had just gotten his CDL and started driving OTR, died Wednesday. He was making a drop at a warehouse in Duluth, MN, and when the warehouse realized that he yet to unload his truck despite getting a dock assignment three hours prior, they went out to check on him. That's when they found him dead by his truck. The autopsy isn't back yet, but all signs point to a heart attack. My 20 year-old cousin, his next of kin, is a wreck.
And although the DOT physical didn't catch any heart condition my uncle may have had, I still want to encourage all of you drivers out there to take those physicals seriously. One of my drivers went last month to get his done, and found out he had a tumor on his kidney. It was cancer, but hopefully he won't have to have chemo because he caught it very early. If his doctor hadn't pointed out the analomy in one of his samples, and if he hadn't taken it seriously, who knows what might have happened. And maybe, my uncle didn't take his physical seriously enough.
Sorry to get on a soapbox here...I just needed to vent somewhere, and to some people who can understand.
Thanks all, Liz

Thanks all, Liz Wow, that is terribly sad and I am sorry to hear it. That is the last way I would choose to go - alone in my truck. Again, so sorry to hear this. It is a very good point, especially since drivers' health is often poor and that just comes with the job quite often. So, drivers, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES!!!
