"A Mistress Called the Road" was one of the movies we watched during the classroom portion of my training at Bates Technical College.
My gut reaction to the story told me a lot about myself. I knew that the lifestyle of an OTR driver was not for me. But that didn't sway me from wanting to drive trucks for a living. I simply refocused my attention to companies that could offer a student driver the opportunity to drive and the chance to get home.
I believe a lot of new drivers are overwhelmed with OTR driving and that may be the biggest hurdle to get past.
I feel fortunate that a regional company came to Bates looking for student drivers. They said that Bates was the only school they would hire student drivers from. Now I have a job that will get me home either daily or at least on the weekends, depending one which division they decide to put me.

I sold a video to a trucking school, though I will not post which one. They sent it back saying that they didn't feel it represented trucking in a positive light. It is only my opinion, but I now believe that any school willing to show that video is A-OK++ in my book.

I purchased the DVD based on the write-up on this site. After watching it, I was wishing it was longer. And I also wish it had catered a bit more to the new driver. Not many new drivers will get a chance to drive for a rock star, or be a successful O/O. It was good as far as it went, but I was left wanting more.
