I guess you must be talking about the axles that destribute the weight while going down the road? They may have the system like the swing arm on the concrete mixer (Challenge Mixers) that gives way when the rig is turned. Kinda like a hook and ladder truck that follows the lead of the tractor.
One bit of advice I can give you is keep it level when you dump it..they tip over easy. (Not as easy as the two axles do)

Frankie;
If the dolly you are referring to has an air damper to keep the tension on the steering mechanism when loaded, be sure that you keep the pressure where it should be according to the manufacturer. It varies.
When going off road, run that air pressure up a bit more to keep the wheels going where you want them. Soft ground can cause them to veer off.
Lock the steering mechanism when backing up to keep the wheels going where you want them to.
Find yourself a 40 acre lot and a half day to fool around. Set up pylons here and there, and see how the unit manouevers. If you have someone who can take video while backing, it may help you to understand what is going on.
It won't be long until you are checking the tail lights on the wagon from the drivers seat.
