I took my CDL test last week and pased but did not even ask the DOT guy what I did wrong or how good or bad my score was. This is all he told me. I received a 6 on my driving test. All he said was all six was because I was CLAWING THE WHEEL. I missed 2 on the pre inspection and 0 on the in cab and 1 on the backing. Can someone out there tell me if this is good or bad and what is clawing the wheel.

Hmmm...strange way to say it, but I think that he may be saying that you had your thumbs inside the steering wheel or a full grasp on the wheel. In some situations, its a good way to get a possible broken thumb.
I'd really have to hit the old CDL skills test manuals to see it is a state requirement or federal requirement, but to be honest, I trained people to keep their thumbs outside the wheel, but dont remember if it was a requirement.
Look on the bright side, you passed the test ansd will never have to worry about it again.

"I trained people to keep their thumbs outside the wheel, but dont remember if it was a requirement."
That was a tradition passed down from older drivers that had to drive non-powered steering trucks. If you looped your thumbs through a 1962 Autocar, the steering wheel spokes would try to knock your thumbs off.
