I graduated school mar of 03, and procrastinated about going over the road, I waited a year to find something local but the pay is not there. I did finaly find a company and the pay was 70 grand a year and it was easy, but if its too good to be true then it probably is....Got laid off the second day. I finally got something local on a military installation, the pay was good, and got laid off after 6 months. I was all set to go over the road, pumped myself up and just missed orientation today, by talking myself out of it....I keep wanting to do it, have no idea why I keep doing it. I know I need to do it to get my confidence up,and have something established by the time my wife gets out of the military in DEC and get something local that pays good, but I keep backing out...I think I would rather be out there than stressing at the house.. any comments would be appreciated GOOD or BAD.

Here is one thing I have noticed being a driving instructor: People get into trucking that have no business there.
You are procrastinating because you don't want to drive over the road. You worry because of the unknown element, you just can't see yourself doing it. I get students all the time that talk about getting a high paying, local job when they get out of school. They never do because you have to have the OTR to get the local stuff. That is just the way it is.
If you had two years OTR then you might find some decent paying local or route jobs. But you sound to me like a person that does not enjoy driving a truck. And you are not going to stick with something you don't enjoy doing. And high paying local jobs are like an honest politician, there just ain't many out there.
