Well, I'm in my first week of CDL school and have five pre-hires. I'm pretty excited about going OTR. I can back straight and double clutch pretty good so far!
The companies that I have prehires for are Covenant Transport Roehl US Xpress USA Truck Werner? National Distribuitors
Basically, what I am looking for is to run south and west of Michigan..possibly Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and everything south of there-all the way to Mexico. I don't really want to run reefers all the time and don't want to run the east coast anymore than 20% of the time. I would like to run solo and make $35,000 my first year. It would be nice to have a Peterbilt, but equipment is second in regards to where I run. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Or the companies I've mentioned. Covenant doesn't sound bad right now...I'm not sure though.

hey,
Long time ago I drove for Werner - not a bad company then, of course they are a lot bigger now. They did run their solo drivers all over the states and Canada.
USA Truck- nothing good to say about them. Met a number of solo drivers who said 90 % of their hauls were the eastern side of the Mississippi. One guy said it was six years since he went west. My own experience with them - we won't go there.
Don't have the slightest idea about the rest - I've seen a couple mentioned in other threads.
good luck

"USA Truck- nothing good to say about them."
Y'know, in a years time we have not sent one of our students to USA truck. They used to send a recruiter to us once a month, I guess they gave up!

All of the companies you mentioned, as well as, all trucking companies in general have good and bad areas. I work for National Distributors and like it because they do not run the east east: only the midwest, south and southwest.
You need to look at each company you are considering according to what you are wanting (i.e. hometime, traffic lanes, pay, etc) and then decide which company better fits that need.
Good Luck!!
