Any comments good or bad on experiences with US Xpress would be appreciated. I am going to orientation there soon and would like to have a small clue as to what I'm getting myself into. Thanks

US Express is a team oriented company. If you want the big miles you are going to run team. The solo drivers get the shag runs picking up a load and taking it to a major freight lane where a team will pick it up and run it to it's destination.

I Drive for US Xpress and thats not true about teams getting all the miles. I get all the miles I want 3000 plus a week as a solo otr driver. You go on to orentation an have a good time at US Xpress. It's a very good Company. I really would encourage anybody thinking about going to US...I've be with them for 1 year now and it's all about how you make it. I drive a 2003 volvo have good miles and make 32cents per mile.

Wow, all this great information and what an incredible array of intelligent & helpful folks!! My question is this - How are the benefits at US Xpress? I'm prepared to tough it out for two years no matter where I go (though I will be elated for at least that long just to be away from 15 years of social work). US Xpress looks good in many ways and I know there will be a waiting time before the benefits kick in, but how good are they? How much are prescriptions? Family members with pre existing conditions are covered? How is the dental? Do they pay for glasses (every couple of years at least?) Thanks, Laird

Hey Everyone!! I've been reading and lurking around here for so long it seems that I know alot of the folks here. I want to start by saying a huge Thank You to all of the experienced drivers and moderators for all your advice and support. I'm soon to be a newbie myself (aug 9th) I will start my driver training for USExpress. I have to tell ya'll that I'm scared to death!! The day I gave my 2 week notice at my job was the most nerve wracked day of my life (ok..maybe I'm exagerating but it was hard) I've worked for the last 5 years as an ER Tech at the local hospital, but have dreamed about driving for about 15 years. Finally just decided to get on with it, that if I was ever going to do it I was going to do it now. I know it's going to be hard!!! I know that it's not an easy job. I know that I have ALOT to learn!!! But I'm ready for this new challenge. I'm looking for any and all advise anyone is willing to share with me. I'm not afraid of hard work, I'm pretty easy to get along with, I follow direction well, don't run with scissors (oh..never mind I'm hoping to get as much info as ya'll are willing to give. What to expect in school (I know I'll be in medway oh in the usxpress "bunkhouse" during school) I've already taken my CDL permit test here in Il even though I know I'm going to have to re-take it in Ohio, just wanted to get the studying done and make sure I remembered how to study......and that's about it. I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone. (P.S. I'm sorry I've rambled just a little nervous...this is my first post) John

I've heard nothing except good about U.S express. I myself was going to go the company school, but I didn't. Me and my old man want to team and we have to wait another 2 years because of his driving record (suspensions) I'm now trying to get state aid to attend a local school, then drive until his suspension turns 5 then apply with U.S. Unfortuntley, they want no more than one suspension in 5 years and he has 2. The first turns three this month! (woo hoo!) which is what most companies require.

If you want information as to the benefits, pay rate and insurance cost.
Call their toll free number and ask for Linda, Linda's husband and 2 sons drive for US Xpress, she was very helpful and will give you a cost break down of the benefits and pay rates.
I spoke with her a few weeks ago, she was very helpful.

OK.Hrer we go. I went ahead and chose US and really think I made the wrong choice. The miles start out great and then fall through the floor. I still drive for them but am looking elsewhere every week. I listen to US drivers day after day complain about low miles and the company keeps giving us this bull about no freight. They claim they have no freight but yet they are offering a $5000 sign on bonus. Makes no sense to the drivers already working there. They cant keep us moving, we sit in truck stops 2 or 3 days waiting on a load; but they offer big bucks for new drivers and give present drivers nothing. Anyone thinking about this company needs to really look hard at it before going with them. I wish I would have.

Be cautious! This is VERY common and only seems to be what you think it is. What time frame and what are the locations are you stuck in. Every fleet and every driver has dry spots! This is the most irritating thing about this industry.
I told every student to suffer personally! Do NOT get in a group of drivers and start comparing misery. The stories grow and grow and the only thing that you hear is how BAD things are. Avoid terminals or at least the smoking circles in the front or rear of the building. Find some people having fun and hang out with them. It makes the time go faster and you may learn from them on how to take the bitter with the sweet.

A few of us students were wondering today.

Is it true that US Xpress runs all Automatic trans? A few of us students were wondering today. Joe Joe; it is true. US Express has nothing but autoshift trucks in its fleet. From what I know about the company they are Freightliners, Volvos, and they have started taking delivery of Peterbilts as well. Their training academy has autoshifts as well as the trucks that are on the line. Go safely; see you on the big road!
