Believe it or not, now JB has a lease program One of their recruiters called me last weeek and tried to get me signed up. The tractor is 2 years old (2 yrs of new drivers ripping it apart), not even a new truck. Payments are $395 per week They take care of the maintenance, and you can buy fuel at their junkyards, and use their fleet tire discount. Yeah, just what I always wanted a used JB truck for $1600 a month .......... NOT !!!!! I'll keep my hopes on that maroon KW and stay happy.

"J.B. Hunt Lease Operator? LMAO But I wonder if there program is better than Englands?"
I wonder if that includes an f.t.a.p. cabover? Kinda hard to pay off a truck carrying trailers to the rail yard 100 miles away.

These lease programs are like selling glasses to a blind man! If your trucking reality is based on B.J. and the Bear...you might just fall for it.

No Tom, The sad thing is they find plenty of IDIOTS Who fall for that scam! All your doing is paying for THEIR TRUCK! making a payment plus $$$extra for the company.THEY'LL NEVER OWN THE TRUCK!And as a contractor, The company dosen't have to pay FICA and Social Serurity Taxes on you. They save a fortune. What is also sad is the trucking industry has to target newbies. So thier first step into trucking is a scam.
And companies wonder why they can't get drivers anymore. Every recruiter competes for students by insulting the other carriers, when you see injustice as a new driver and say something about it the carriers use DAC to blacklist you, they "lease to own" you a truck knowing that you will never get it paid off, and then repo it because they (the same people who leased you a truck) won't give you enough miles to keep the payments up. And then they gripe because the turnover rate in Trucking is so high!
They love these turnover rates, it keeps people moving THROUGH the industry like tourists on a conveyor belt. It keeps the pay down, and there is a fresh batch of suckers graduating driving schools every week.
I warn my students, but they are far too starry eyed to listen to an ignorant old trucker like me!

Any time your name is on the truck, either as owner, or lease holder, be sure to have the contract explained to you by a legal professional.
Then, have the legal professional prepare an addendum to the contract that includes specific guarantees in your favour.
These include guaranteed minimum revenue (as long as you can keep the wheels turning), breakdown insurance (which will cover the cost of a short term rental), fuel costs (specific markup with your full share of fuel riders), repair/ maintainance costs (guaranteed pricing for oil changes and services, mark up on tires, etc), insurance costs (vehicle and freight).
If your addendum is reasonable, then the "Company" should have no problem with accepting. If they will not, then you are reasonably sure that there is a scam involved.
Before you present the addendum to the "Company" have your accountant (perferably one who knows trucking) look it over for possible problem areas.
If every thing works out, you will be in the green light zone for the contract. Then if you decide to go ahead, keep your records accurate. Take 60% of the company drivers wages for yourself, and put the rest into the "Why did this happen to me now" fund.

I think I read somewhere that OOIDA is sueing C.R. England over these leases. I'm bad about reading the jokes in Land Line magazine and not reading the important stuff.....I guess I need to be a better member.
I think they are sueing DAC services too!
