Greetings to All,
I'm inquiring about the program offered by the Fort Scott Comm. College via their KCK affiliate. I,ve seen only one post regarding their program and it was a positive comment. I am nearly 57 and want to use my time and money wisely. No time available for BS programs or cdl mills. Learning safe driving pratices is a big concern, as is learning fed requirements and regs. I understand that school training is basic and a newbie must look to be trained on the road by a co. driver. Over the years i've gained patience and know that I must humble myself at this tme to be able to accept the wisdom and knowlege of those who know. Any responses to this inquiry is greatly appreciated.

I was 57 when I went to the Fort Scott School (2 years ago) and it was ok. My truck instructor was Jeff Kouch, don't know if he is still there. He made sure we got out in the traffic and did lots of transitions. Good guy. They split the class in half and when one group in in the class room, the other group is in the trucks. They have 3 trucks. I went in and talked to the director 2 or 3 times before I signed up, he was probably tired of seeing me. He gave me a practice test for all the endorsements, which was a big help in the study. They also do all their own testing for your CDL, and he was my examiner, only because he was out there hangin' around when we were being tested. I got hired driving a concrete mixer and this Feb moved over to one of the semi rock trucks. We have another driver that also went to that school, so saying you can't get a local semi job right out of school is not always true....or we were just lucky. Do you live in the KC area??

I went to KCK and it is an ok school. They get you out in traffic and on the road quick but you have to do as they tell you. There is no tolerance for a student that wont listen. When I was there they put 4 people out of the school because they wanted to do things their way instead of the schools way. You'll be working with Farrell alot and the guy has it together. He drove for ABF for more than 30 years and is really a good instructor.

I'm thinking about it, too. If I decide to get my cdl I'll probably be waiting until spring, but am considering the KCK school.
The price seems decent compared to some and I'm hoping that after I do some research I'll find that it's a good school because it sure would be convenient to be able to go there!
