Hi All,
So glad I stumbled on this site. I almost said yes to one of the local CDL Mills. At least I think it's one. OTRdrivers.com. The only thing that stopped me wasn't even concerns about the curriculum. It was the question I asked about "time away from home". When I heard the answer (he was honest) I said, "Ahem, I'll call ya back...”.
Anyway, I am originally from California, laid off IT. Lived in No. Alberta fro a couple years and now I am down in Northeast Texas (Near Greenville). I have been stumbling all over Google trying to figure out what would be the best bet (regarding a trucking school) for me considering my location and situation. Broke, living in a small town 60 miles from Dallas.
I don’t want get herded into a bad situation with little or no training. I have been doing contract work as a web designer but the money just isn’t there anymore. 40 and no retirement. A girlfriend that makes good money as an R. N, but justifiably wants me to get a J.O.B. So, I want to be smart about the school I choose.
After struggling with resumes, and turndowns, I give up. Don't want to do the It thing anymore, at least not as a job.
I would like to find a good school that does the company funded thing. But I am going to the Workforce Center in Greenville to see what my options are. I think I would be a good Truck Driver. Spent a year driving 5 ton fords all over San Diego for a roofing company in '92. Did pretty well. Anyway I have read this whole "driving school" section of the forum and thank everyone for the great posts. The more I read the more I think this just might be the way to go. Had a little time to rethink the "time away from home thing".
So, I guess my question is does anyone know of a good school around here that does the company funded thing?
???
