Greg in Seattle! If your really considering a driving school don't look any further than Bates Community Collage in Tacoma.Having quite a bit of experience with driving schools myself, they offer the best instruction for the money. The course is 5 and a half months long, but you'll be better prepared when you go job hunting

I've come to the conclusion that if I continue to analyze the choices I'll go crazy.
I went to an orientation on the trucking program at Bates today (after first getting LOST because I followed the sign to the main campus instead of the directions I printed out. My first taste at some of the frustration of being on the road, ha!)
Afterwards, I called my former employer's employee service center (same dept I used to work in) because I needed some info about Cobra. Low and behold, I never knew that Joan who sat next to me used to own a trucking company! She had nothing but praise for Bates!
So... looks like it's going to be Bates. What swayed me was the quality and the fact I can apply for worker retraining to fund it. The hard part will be deciding if I want to commute or move to Tacoma. I like it here in Ballard.
Greg

I'll probably drive. Long commute (over an hour, but I guess I better get used to that!) that takes me through downtown Seattle, but it's too much hassle and expense to move for just a few months. Besides, I like my little cubby hole here in Ballard. Yeah, you betcha! Hey Greg,
When you find out who your instructor is and which class you're attending, be sure to post it!
I'm taking the Long Haul course on second shift with instructor Gary Falk.
Maybe we'll cross paths occasionally.
GLAngst, did you ever get the message I sent you? I'm curious how you're connected with Bates and where you did your training.

I haven't started any paperwork yet, but I know I want to do the long-haul day program since I'm not working right now. I want to aim for the class starting 3-31 or 4-15. I may even attend the orientation session again next week because I only caught the last 20 minutes of it because I was late. Fozzie, do you live in Tacoma? Yeah, I have walked to Titlow Beach from here too. I don't dive, however. Some of my friends and family do. My niece and her husband teach people to dive.

I didn't know SCC had a CDL course. I'll have to check it out. It would certainly be a lot closer for me. Seattle Greg! The schooling I got at SSC was not the best as I recolect but it was all that was available in Seattle area back then. They had an old Frightliner with a 5&4.This been a long time ago.I don't even know if they have a driving program now. Sorry I added mud to your decision making.Sometimes the less said the better.

No harm done. I looked... SCC doesn't show Truck Driving as part of their curiculum. That goes for north or south SCC.

Actually they do, listed as Commercial Driver Training: southseattle.edu/programs/proftech/comtruck.htmBut doesn't sound as good a course as Bates. No harm done. I looked... SCC doesn't show Truck Driving as part of their curiculum. That goes for north or south SCC.
