Hello I'm new to this board but have been reading for awhile. I am 23 and seriously looking into the trucking business. I want to travel and OTR i feel would not bother me. I know i would be under pressure to get from point A to point B and after months of research feel that i am ready for the plunge. I am thinking about Transport Tech in Brookville PA. I started applying to different companys. I have a perfect record, no accidents or felonies...nothing. I ran into a problem though with financing. I need a cosignor and my parents say they cant do it. So i guess my only choice is to go with a company with free training(well not free, you know what i mean). I m looking at schneider but i feel their training is way too short from what ive heard. Is there any other company like this that i can go to or look at. Does anyone have any good info on schneider or any company like it. At this point, after trying to decide if i want to drive because this isnt a job its a career, i feel im one step away from doing something i want to do but keep coming up short. I m not married and have no kids so i dont have anything holdong me back. Anything you guys say will help me in some way so i thank you very much

See if your state has a re-training program through unemployment. Sometimes they will help you.
I have taught alot of rehabilition cases how to drive. Who knows? Tell them you are chronically depressed!
But the catch to the company training is a contract you sign that you will drive for them for a year or two. Do you suppose that for the duration of the contract that you will be hauling all the loads no one else wants?

I have talked to alot of people about SNI and from what I understand, they have one of the best training programs in the industry as far as company training goes.

What do you guys think about Millis Transfer. I thought about applying there because they provide schooling. I was also looking at US express but from what ive read the dont seem to get the miles. I was reading that Diary of a Swift driver and it seemed to me they were pretty hard on the drivers. I spend about 6 hours a day from after work around 4 pm to around 10 trying to read everything i can about every company and get the best idea i can by reading everything. It is weird but i feel reading all the good things, and even more the bad things, I REALLY want to get out there and experience it and give it 650%. Any other info on company paid training---companies is much appreciated. Thank you once again.

Here are the choices really, you can either go with a campany like C.R. England that trains it's own drivers. Or look for a company that pays tuition re-embursement.
But there is no perfect setup, every way is going to have it's drawbacks. You are just going to have to pick the best arrangement you can and do it!
Good Luck.

Hey buddy you sound like me in a couple of years. If you want Stevens Transport, TX pay for schooling or will fly you to dallas for their schooling. Werner pays re-embursement also. But like they say you have to sign a contract. But tell me what happens because i have to weigh my options too, and see what I have to do to pay for schooling.
