Everything's ready and I'm fixing to do the paperwork for starting school. I just had a question pop into my head about the costs of schooling.
Since I'm having to pay this out of my own pocket, I'm wondering if the costs of tuition are something that can be deducted on my taxes? Anyone else have any information on this issue?
I'm sure that I've read where porofessional education and career development courses are tax deductable. I'd just appreciate hearing from anyone who has done that with CDL and driving school.

my understanding is that it is possible to deduct qualified tuition and other expenses for the purpose of furthering your existing career, but not for the purpose of changing careers. sorry

If you are currently unemployed, check with your state unemployment or jobs office... there may be a partial grant available.

No grant for me, I'm "too rich" according to the state. We make more than 40% of the poverty level, the cutoff for eligibility in PA.
Even though since I was laid off we're on the edge of bankruptcy, we still have too much income to qualify for the state training grant program. Of course, that's if the new governor had not robbed it of all funding for job training.
Anyway, I signed on with Schneider and start classes Dec 8. I can use the money I had put together for tuition and use it for expenses in getting started and to have as an emergencies fund.
