Hello I'm new to this board but have been reading for awhile. I am 23 and seriously looking into the trucking business. I want to travel and OTR i feel would not bother me. I know i would be under pressure to get from point A to point B and after months of research feel that i am ready for the plunge. I am thinking about Transport Tech in Brookville PA. I started applying to different companys. I have a perfect record, no accidents or felonies...nothing. I ran into a problem though with financing. I need a cosignor and my parents say they cant do it. So i guess my only choice is to go with a company with free training(well not free, you know what i mean). I m looking at schneider but i feel their training is way too short from what ive heard. Is there any other company like this that i can go to or look at. Does anyone have any good info on schneider or any company like it. At this point, after trying to decide if i want to drive because this isnt a job its a career, i feel im one step away from doing something i want to do but keep coming up short. I m not married and have no kids so i dont have anything holdong me back. Anything you guys say will help me in some way so i thank you very much

Have you checked the technical schools in your state for any that offer driver training? You could apply for financial aid or some other state funded programs. In most cases, your tuition will be reimbursed when you get your first driving job. Essentially, your training will be free.

Stay as far away from C.R. England as you possibly can. There is a reason they have such high turnover. For Schnieder, check out www.pumpkindriver.com

Use your head and thoroughly research each company.
Schneider isn't bad, Millis is another good one.
Avoid England, Swift, Stevens & Prime
CRST is okay for teams
There is a HUGE selection out there, just take some time to research them all before you leap. That $5k loan is a bear, you can get training MUCH cheaper if you are smart.

Hey all, its been awhile. After doing my research for over 6 months I've decided to go with Schneider. From what I found they offer the best traning for a newbie. I think they pay a little less than most. However for someone just starting out I think training is what one should really be looking for if they want to survive the first year.. Just my two cents.

Oh btw, Schneider 's traning is not "short" 11 initial days of basic, 5 days of jumpstart and 1-2 weeks with a trainer.

Jersey;
3 to 4 weeks will just about give you a license to learn.
I am a trainer with my employer, and even though I have been with them for (yes really) 18 years there are few days that I don't gain more insight into the world of driving.
Remember that each season has its own difficulties. Winter has snow and ice (and a few loonies). Summer has the tourists doing their thing (and a few loonies). Spring and fall have students trying to get home or back to school.
Days and nights each have their own fun and games too.
Enjoy the life, and remember that if you feel that you can't learn any more, it is time to get out.
